The idea for Backlot2Blacktop came to Dave two years ago on a trip across country with his youngest son visiting colleges. His son had the idea to buy old cars, sell them somewhere far away, and buy another old car to drive home. They thought it would be fun to drive something that is somewhat unique and have to fix it along the roadside.

Andy and Dave bought their first project, a 1998 AWD Grand Caravan that needed some serious TLC. This van sat and sat as they worked on other cars that took more precedence. This van, which came to be known as The Shed, was just something that they stored stuff in. 
        Fast forward a little over a year and Dave's oldest son needed a car out in Colorado. Dave decided that this van would work for him. Andy thought it would be a good idea to put some miles on it before Dave embarked on this journey. Three days later the transmission decided it didn’t want to work any more. Dave found himself on the hunt for an AWD Astro when he came across one in Altoona, PA. He purchased this van on a Monday morning and by Tuesday afternoon, he was on the road delivering a 200,000 mile van 1,819 miles to get Dave's son his new ride. He decided to keep occupied on this long road trip by live streaming on social media every stop he made. It turned out that people enjoyed these check-ins. When Dave returned from this trip, he and Andy immediately  determined that they had something with this.
        Now, they have found cars that would be good at the race track, the drag strip, and off roading. Every car guy knows at least one guy that has a project that hasn’t been worked on as much as it should have been. Well, Dave and Andy have several. Backlot2Blackop is about those projects, about those races, and about those road trips.
